The Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) at Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) is a comprehensive program designed to equip aspiring educators with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to excel in English language teaching. This program is committed to producing highly qualified English language teachers who can effectively cater to the diverse needs of learners in Malaysian secondary schools and beyond. This program is meticulously designed to meet the professional and academic needs of future English language teachers, emphasizing in-depth knowledge of English, cutting-edge teaching methodologies, and practical teaching experiences.

The TESL program is comprehensive, covering University Compulsory Subjects, MQA Compulsory Subjects, Education Foundation, Professional Practice, and Discipline Core areas. This structure ensures a well-rounded education, encompassing technical English, linguistic theory, teaching methodologies, and practical teaching experience.

To graduate, students need to complete 121 credit hours, including 16 weeks of practicum at a secondary school and a research project.

Our program is accessible to a wide range of applicants, with various pathways for admission:

  • A Pass in STPM with a minimum of Grade C (GP 2.00) in any two (2) subjects; OR
  • A Pass in STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid; OR
  • A Certificate in Matriculation or Foundation with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00; OR
  • A Diploma (Level 4, MQF) in any field with at least CGPA of 2.00 out of 4:00; OR v. A Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM) / Diploma Lanjutan Kemahiran Malaysia (DLKM)/ Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM) subjected to HEP Senate / Academic Board’s approval*. Attendance in bridging courses is requireed; OR
  • A Pass in UEC with a minimum of Grade B in five (5) subjects including English Language; OR
  • An Advanced Diploma (Level 5, MQF) with at least CGPA of 2.00 out of 4:00; OR
  • Other relevant equivalent qualifications recognised by Malaysian government as equivalent to the above requirements.
  • Additional requirement: MUET Band 4 or its equivalent.

Upon graduation, our TESL graduates will be able to:

  • assess student learning and provide appropriate feedback.
